Overview
Graduates in History (L-42) acquire a wide basic training and skills to approach historical research, alongside the cultural and professional attitude to connect the present to the past, and to investigate the latter with the necessary tools to achieve scientific knowledge.
The basic teachings, focused on historical disciplines, are targeted to provide: knowledge of the fundamentals of literary, geographical, philosophical, historical-artistic (and human sciences in general) disciplines; the ability to use effectively at least one language of the European Union (besides Italian); the ability to use tools of information technologies for the humanities.
Programme structure
The competence for starting the practice of historical research will be achieved through courses covering the whole span of history, from the ancient to the contemporary world (in its global dimension). Within each defined chronological period, or in a given thematic area, the aforementioned competence will secure a sound knowledge of the major historiographical themes and debates and the methodologies of treatment and interpretation of sources. An additional objective is to acquire a rigorous but clear historiographical language (oral and written), one attentive to the registers of scientific, educational and informative exposure.
Career opportunities
Graduates in History will be able to carry out professional activities in public and private institutions, in the fields of cultural services (with tasks both of carrying out and coordinating historical research and preserving and enhancing the archival, library and material cultural heritage); cultural publishing and journalism (with regard to all forms of historical dissemination); international cultural relations.
